Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) & Relationships Eduation (RSE)
As a part of your child’s educational experience at Clarkson Infant and Nursery School, we aim to promote personal well-being and development through a programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
What is RSE?
As of 2020, relationships and sex education in primary schools is a statutory subject, alongside Health Education. However, as we are an infant school, our focus is on teaching the fundamental building blocks of Relationship Education, including the characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and with adults. This starts with children being taught about what a relationship is, what friendship is, what family means and who the people are who can support them.
Through PSHE and RSE assemblies, lessons and day-to-day interactions, we aim to teach children to be kind, respectful and aim high in all they do. Children are taught the importance of keeping safe on-line and off-line. We feel proud of the strong relationships we build with the children in our care and use our knowledge of the children to be able to provide individualised support and teaching concerning PSHE and RSE objectives.
We use the Jigsaw (PSHE) Scheme, but enhance this further with stories, phrases and key vocabulary.
Parents are not be able to withdraw their child from Relationships Education in the primary phase, which includes infant schools. Our science curriculum includes content on the human body, where children learn the correct terminology for body parts, which there is also no right to withdraw from.
